Hey Rock, There are 3 renaissance festivals that I know of per year. I think that weekend is Pirates weekend, so most people will be dressed as pirates.

It's intimate, not too huge, very friendly, and just wickedly awesome! Many shows to see, musical groups to listen to and many many shops for buying or just perusing. You can just go and see what it's all about and if you like it, then dress up for any future times that you go to them. I do lady's nobility gowns by trade, or, used to before heart stuff kicked in. If you're more comfy in shorts and a t-shirt, might get heckled by some of the cast, but it's all in fun. I would be a gypsy doling out good fortune potion and casting character correction spells.
